At about 08:40 UT, ACE observations show the shock arrival due to the halo CME from March 9th. The Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field is fluctuating with the intervals of strong negative values of about - 20 nT. The last interval of negative Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field lasted about 2 hours, what is resulting in ongoing strong geomagnetic storm. NOAA reported a Kp value of 6, while local stations reported values of K=4,5.

The proton event is still in progress. Due to the arrival of the shock wave the solar wind speed was elevated to 570 km/s, and it is currently about 500 km/s. We expect the arrival of the ICME from March 10, early on March 13, resulting in a moderate to strong (K = 6-7) geomagnetic storm.

Sunspot region 1429 maintains beta-gamma-delta configuration of its photospheric magnetic field and it might produce another M-class flare. Two new active regions with beta configuration appeared yesterday at the east limb (regions 1433 and 1434). We expect flaring activity on the C-level with a probability for an M-class flare in the following 48 hours. Another X-class flare remains possible but not probable.​

NASA: Our only Solar Storm warning satellite ACE ‘could falter soon’ – Coincidence or Cover-Up?

NASA: A US satellite that offers the only advance warnings of incoming solar storms is more than a decade past its expected orbital lifetime and is possibly on its last legs, researchers say.


Stationed around 1 million miles from Earth. NASA’s Advanced Composition Explorer satellite, nicknamed ACE, cautions about incoming high-energy particles from the sun which can wreak havoc on radio, GPS, satellite communications that are now embedded in modern life.


“It would be a very bad day for us if that spacecraft was not working,” the Discovery News quoted William Murtagh, program coordinator for NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colo., as saying.


“When an eruption occurs on the sun, there are still quite a few question marks as to if it’s going to hit the Earth and when it’s going to hit the Earth,.”


Until the sun’s free-flying and highly energetic outbursts, known as coronal mass ejections, hit the ACE spacecraft, forecasters are not acquainted with the orientation of their embedded magnetic fields.


Depending on the polarity, or alignment, Earth’s magnetic shield will either peel away, giving the highly charged particles more freedom to disturb electrically sensitive equipment and communications, or rebuff the particles, like what happened during this week’s outburst.


NOAA has asserted that over 22,000 utility operators, airlines, satellite owners, GPS users and others are signed up to receive space weather alerts and millions more get the information on NOAA’s website.


“ACE is a single point of failure and it’s old,” Murtagh said.
“Every time I have a space weather storm I cringe a little bit that our very own space weather satellite doesn’t succumb to the storms I’m relying on it to help forecast.”


Another satellite with space weather sensors was slated to be launched in 2003 by the doomed shuttle Columbia crew, but the spacecraft, known as Triana, was nixed by the Bush administration as it was supported by former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore.


Gore championed the spacecraft for its ability to incessantly relay live pictures of Earth from the vantage point of 1 million miles away in space, in hopes that the global view of the blue planet would rally environmental awareness.
“There were no technical reasons why it couldn’t go. We were getting ready to send it the Cape (Kennedy Space Center) for launch and we got an order that the mission was not going to go,” project scientist Adam Szabo, with NASA’s Heliospheric Physics Laboratory at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said.

After its ride was called off, Triana was put into storage at Goddard. It is presently undergoing checkouts and refurbishments in preparation for rebirth as NOAA-operated space weather sentry.

Launch is targeted for June 2014. The sun’s 11-year solar cycle is expected to peak in May 2013!!

Heightened solar activity, which is ramping up this year, will carry on for nearly the next six years.

Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have put out a new video to address false claims about the “Mayan apocalypse,” a non-event that some people believe will bring the world to an end on Dec. 21.

Addressing the belief that the calendar used by the ancient Mayan civilization comes to a sudden end in December 2012, and that this will coincide with a cataclysmic, world-ending event. Don Yeomans, head of the Near-Earth Objects Program Office at NASA/JPL said: “Their calendar does not end on December 21, 2012; it’s just the end of the cycle and the beginning of a new one. It’s just like on December 31, our calendar comes to an end, but a new calendar begins on January 1.”

He added that there is zero possibility of a NASA cover-up. “Can you imagine thousands of astronomers who observe the skies on a daily basis keeping the same secret from the public for several years?” Read more huf.post

As for solar flares, Yeomans explained that these do exist — in fact, two massive solar flares erupted just days ago, sending bursts of solar radiation into space — But they are a part of the Sun’s Normal 11 -year cycle. Radiation from solar flares can damage orbiting satellites, but Earth’s magnetosphere shields its inhabitants from the blasts, and the flares are not a health concern.

Then in 2010, NASA again warns the general population of a pending solar storm, telling the population to get ready for a once in a lifetime solar storm
And Astrophysicist Alexei Dmitriev further supports NASA’s original 2012 solar storm warning issued back in March of 2006.

Dmitriev: “Our sun, as well as our entire solar system, is now moving into an interstellar energy cloud and as this interstellar energy cloud continues to excite/charge the sun, it causes the sun to become more active, resulting in greater output from the sun. IE: Bigger and more frequent solar storms and CME’s resulting in the Carrington effect. This interstellar cloud of electrical energy is also absorbed by the Earth, and Scientist have found that it results in more earth quakes, all while dramatically effecting our weather here on earth”.

Solar Storm Warnings from NASA (for reasons unknown) are not being taken seriously by the general public. There are hundreds of millions who are complacent, and when the time comes, will put demands on their neighbors supplies because people such as (possibly yourself) were unconcerned about providing their own lifeline, despite you had a heads up.
Coincidence, conflicting reports, cover-up or zero possibility of a NASA cover-up, whatever, decide for yourself what is true and what is not and follow your own intuition!

Sunspot region 1430, sitting right next to region 1429 which has produced several M-class and three X-class flares, is now showing off its power. Due to the position of these regions, and direct hit to Earth is unlikely, but a glancing blow is defiantly expected.

BRIGHT COMET DIVES INTO RADIATION STORM: A bright comet is diving into the sun. It was discovered just last week by SOHO's SWAN instrument, so it has been named "Comet SWAN." The comet's death plunge ( or "swan dive") comes just as the sun has unleashed a strong flare and radiation storm around Earth. SOHO images of the comet are confused to some degree by energetic protons striking the camera. Nevertheless, you can see Comet SWAN moving through the electronic "snow" in this 3 hour movie:​

This is a Kreutz sungrazer, a fragment of the same ancient comet that produced sungrazing Comet Lovejoy in Dec. 2011. According to comet expert Karl Battams of the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC, "Comet SWAN is one of the brightest Kreutz-group comets ever observed by SOHO, although not quite as bright as Comet Lovejoy." Battams forecasts a peak magnitude of -1 for Comet SWAN, while Lovejoy was three magnitudes brighter at -4.​

Will Comet SWAN survive its plunge through the sun's atmosphere as Comet Lovejoy did? Probably not, but experts also said Comet Lovejoy would not survive, and they were [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w75lBn1QIaI"]happily wrong[/ame]. Stay tuned to Karl Battam's blog for updates.​

STRONG FLARE, INCOMING CME: Departing sunspot AR1429 unleashed another strong flare on March 13th, an M7-class eruption that peaked around 1741 UT. Although the sunspot is no longer directly facing Earth, the blast will affect our planet. Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say a CME is en route to Earth, and its impact on March 15th at 06:20 UT (+/- 7 hours) could trigger minor to moderate geomagnetic storms. NOAA AR 1429 produced a M7.9 flare today, peaking at 17:41 UT. It is
associated with a proton event in progress (for protons with energy
above 10 and 50 MeV) and a fast CME (~1300 km/s from preliminary
estimates based on LASCO observations). At this moment, it is unclear
what is the longitudinal extent of this event. The position of the
source region on the disk makes this CME unlikely to trigger significant
geomagnetic disturbances, and if any, not before the second half of
March 15th.
