Police calls: Burglaries in Atherton and Menlo Park – The Almanac Online

    These reports are from the Menlo Park and Atherton police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent unless convicted. Police received the reports on the dates shown.



    ATHERTON

    Residential burglary: Someone entered a home on Greenoaks Drive through a broken glass panel on a door to a bedroom at the rear of the house. The burglar ransacked several rooms, but it’s not known whether anything was taken. Police are investigating. Dec. 13.



    MENLO PARK

    Residential burglaries:

    • Someone smashed a rear window on a home on San Mateo Drive and may have fled when the alarm sounded. It’s not known whether any property was taken. Dec. 13.

    • Someone broke a section of a backdoor window of a home on Grace Drive and set off an alarm after opening the door. The interior was not ransacked and nothing was taken. Dec. 13.

    Battery: A mother was arguing about child custody with the child’s father in the 1200 block of Windermere Avenue when the father allegedly shoved her into a wall. The father left the scene before police arrived. The mother, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury, told police she wanted to press charges. Dec. 9.

    Assault:

    • A 22-year-old man told police that two black men shot at him on University Avenue where it meets a set of railroad tracks. He said he took himself to Stanford Hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left forearm. The man’s statements about the incident “frequently changed and he was uncooperative,” police said. Police searched the area where the incident allegedly took place, but found no bullet casings or other evidence of a shooting. There were no witnesses. An investigation is underway. Dec. 10.

    • Police are investigating a report of a minor inappropriately touching another minor in the 1300 block of Windermere Avenue. Dec. 9.

    Auto burglary: Someone used a tool of some kind to break a window on a vehicle parked at Walnut Street and Laurel Avenue. The burglar rummaged through the glove compartment but apparently took nothing. Estimated loss: $400. Dec. 9.

    Thefts:

    • Thieves stole six bicycles: one locked to a bike rack in the 1100 block of Alma Street, a second locked under a stairwell on Fremont Street, a third locked to a post outside an apartment on Fremont Street, a fourth locked inside a garage in the 700 block of University Drive, and a fifth locked to a bike rack at Doyle Street and Santa Cruz Avenue. At Facebook on Hacker Way, the sixth bike was inside a storage compartment that may or may not have been locked. Estimated losses: $2,600, $2,400, $900, $650, $300 and $1,000. Dec. 10, 11 and 12.

    • A thief stole a makeup bag (from an unlocked vehicle) and a child’s tricycle from a parking garage on Pine Street. Estimated loss: $690. Dec. 10.

    • Someone stole a marble statue of Buddha from the side yard of a home on Oak Knoll Lane. Estimated loss: $500. Dec. 12.

    • Two scooters were stolen from the front porch of a home on Live Oak Avenue. Estimated loss: $300. Dec. 11.

    • A woman shopping at the Safeway supermarket at 525 El Camino Real told police that someone stole her wallet from her unzipped purse. Estimated loss: $204. Dec. 9.

    • Someone stole a wallet left in a shopping cart at Trader Joe’s market at 720 Menlo Ave. Estimated loss: $100. Dec. 12.

    Stolen vehicles:

    • A white 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe from a driveway on Creek Drive. Dec. 10.

    • A black 2017 Nissan Maxima from a carport on Oak Lane. Dec. 10.



    WOODSIDE

    Stolen vehicle: From the 100 block of Swett Road. Vehicle details were entered into the stolen-vehicle system. Dec. 27.
