Two Birds Marketplace one-stop shop in downtown Ballston Spa – The Saratogian

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. — Downtown Ballston Spa has a new one-stop shop with the opening of Two Birds Marketplace, a bakery, cafe and market in the heart of the neighborhood.

Located at 32 Front St., Two Birds Marketplace opened earlier this month, inviting customers to shop for groceries, eat in the cafe, or grab a meal on-the-go.

The Two Birds menu features a variety of baked goods, all proudly made from scratch daily. Treats like cookies, muffins, scones and coffee cake can be found at the bakery counter, while healthier grab ‘n’ go items like breakfast bowls, overnight oats, buddha bowls, grain salads and hummus are available as well.

Beverages like coffee, tea, chai, smoothies and house-made golden milk are popular with visitors too.

Additionally, partnered with local farms and purveyors whenever possible, Two Birds Marketplace aims to provide a full line of essential grocery items including fresh produce, milk, eggs, cheese, whole grains, pastas and nuts.

Throughout its offerings, Two Birds Marketplace provides, gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options.

Two Birds Marketplace is the sister business to Iron Roost, a waffle restaurant next door that opened in 2012. Both are owned by Ballston Spa-based entrepreneur Linnaea DiNallo.

With the different components offered at Two Birds Marketplace, DiNallo hopes customers can achieve more than one task during a visit — like grabbing a morning coffee and a yummy lunch for later, or picking up a half gallon of milk while meeting a friend for smoothies. In other words, killing two birds with one stone.

DiNallo has wanted to pursue this business idea for quite some time. In fact, it was part of the original concept for Iron Roost.

Then, “We just decided it probably deserved its own space,” DiNallo shared. “It’s kind of been on the back burner for all these years.”

When the unit adjacent to Iron Roost, a former hair salon, became available in January, DiNallo recognized the opportunity to pursue this endeavor, but didn’t make a move right away.

“I think it was almost a little bit of a joke like ‘Well if this space is still available in August we’re gonna for it,’” DiNallo recalled. “Seven, eight months later it was, and we all were still on board, and we decided this is it.”


Now that it’s a reality, DiNallo and the team at Two Birds Marketplace and Iron Roost want to create a destination on Front Street.

“Similar to next door, we’re really trying to create an experience for people,” she said. “This is not your typical grocery store. The setting is different, the level of service, the quality. We’re really trying to hit it on all marks and offer something more than just trolling the aisles and picking things off the shelf.

“We really want to be able to educate folks and answer questions, whether they have any sort of special dietary needs or they’re just looking for some culinary feedback.”

In the future, “I really just hope to be a regular stop for folks — all different folks, people that live here and people that are just passing through – with the different components that we’re offering. I really would love this to be people’s main stop for their groceries,” DiNallo said. “As time goes on I’m looking to build out our products and services. We have all sorts of ideas.”
