Sunspot region 1476 has produced three moderate M-class flares within the last 24 hours, the strongest being an M1.4 flare. The LASCO spacecraft observed signature CMEs off the Eastern limb of the Sun that may not be related to region 1476. It is quite possible they originated from a 'farside' region.
​

Viewing the graphic of the 'farside' of the Sun (shown above), you can see four sunspot regions will rotate around the Eastern limb within the next 36 hours. Solar activity is likely to reach active levels with risks of M class flares from region 1476 during the next 48 hours, and it is yet known of the strength of the four coming regions.
​

Geomagnetic activity is expected to reach active condition levels by May 8th as a coronal hole becomes geo-effective. Isolated minor storm conditions are possible. Watch for an up-tick in extreme weather events such as earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, or rapid temperature shits.

Solar activity is now at moderate levels. New and active Sunspot 1476 has produced three low level M-Class flares thus far. There will continue to be a chance for another moderate solar flare on Sunday. This region is still not in the best position for Earth directed explosions, however this will change with each passing day.

Three M-Class Flares / Sunspot 1476
Solar activity increased to moderate levels thanks to newly numbered Sunspot 1476. This new region rotated into view off the northeast limb and has so far produced a pair of M-Class flares. The latest event was an M1.3 at 23:01 UTC Saturday evening. Stay Tuned to SolarHam.com as solar activity is again increasing.
UPDATE: Sunspot 1476 did generate a third low level M-Class flare early on Sunday morning.

BIG SUNSPOT: One of the largest sunspot groups in years rotated over the sun's northeastern limb this weekend. With a least four dark cores larger than Earth, AR1476 sprawls more than 100,000 km from end to end, and makes an easy target for backyard solar telescopes. Amateur astronomer Alan Friedman sends this picture of the behemoth from his backyard in Buffalo, NY:

"AR1476 is firecrackler," says Friedman.

Indeed, the active region is crackling with impulsive M-class solar flares. Based on the sunspot's complex 'beta-gamma' magnetic field, NOAA forecasters estimate a 70% chance of more M-flares during the next 24 hours. There is also a 5% chance of powerful X-flares.​

A sporadic line of severe weather alertshave been broadcast in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Florida, and Texas.

The National Weather Service has placed "warning" alertsfor flash floods, hail storms, and sudden temperature shifts. (spelled correctly)


A new M-class flare has fired off from sunspot region 1476. At this time, SOHO and SDO are conducting their routine "burnout", however, ground instruments do suggest a CME (coronal mass ejection) did follow this flare.

A huge coronal hole has opened up on the Sun running from north to south down almost the entire sphere. This could be a big problem in creating a large amount of charged particles to be discharged directly at Earth.
